Around 1 in 4 people in the UK each year will experience a mental health condition. Your family, your friends, or maybe even those you work with can all be impacted by mental health conditions and being able to recognise these, start a supportive conversation, and signpost a person to support could make all the difference to someone you know.

This course builds on the content delivered in the Level 1 Award but with the addition of content on: substance abuse, the first aid action plan, and how to implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace. 

This course is suitable for all but primarily aimed at those who wish to be considered a 'First Aider for Mental Health' within a workplace or other organisation. 


Course content 

- Know what mental health is, why people develop mental health conditions, and the role of a first aider for mental health.

- Know how to provide advice and practical support for a person presenting a suspected mental health condition. 

- Know how to recognise and manage stress.

- Understand the impact of substance abuse on mental health. 

- Understand the first aid action plan for mental health and be able to put it in place. 

- Know how to implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace.

- Know how to recognise a range of mental health conditions. 


The course consists of one full day of delivery. 

All course content is delivered in person, via direct delivery, pair / group work, and live scenarios. There is no self-study or prior learning required. 

The course will be delivered 0930 - 1700.

Assessment 

You will be assessed via a role play exercise in the morning, and a written assessment in the afternoon.

Entry requirements 

Learners must be 18 years or older to attend our online course. You will be required to confirm your identify and age using a form of photographic identification such as a driving license, passport, or similar. 

You do not need any prior knowledge of first aid, or mental health before starting this course. 

 
Location 

This course is delivered at our venue just outside Tunbridge Wells and within a few minutes of the A21 dual-carriageway. 


Qualification 

Upon successful completion of the course and passing of the assessment you will receive a Level 2 qualification, regulated by First Aid Awards (FAA), an awarding organisation regulated by Ofqual and SQA. 

Your qualification is valid for three years from the date of achievement.

We can generally accommodate up to 16 learners for in-person courses but subject to instructor availability this can be increased to accommodate larger groups.
